St James Examination Results 2011

These results are testament to the hard work and commitment of our wonderful students and staff. This has been an excellent year group in every way and we are very proud of every student and the results they have achieved, with many exceeding their aspirational targets. Key highlights include significant improvements in academic subjects such as Maths, History, Geography, and all 3 Sciences. The number of students gaining A/A* across all subjects has also increased with 20% of students achieving an A or A* in Maths. We are also delighted that so many of our students have made aspirational post 16 choices and we will look forward to seeing them continue to make outstanding progress in the future.

School Prospectus 2011

Dear Parents/Carers

Welcome to St James.

Starting at or considering a new school is an exciting time for young people and their parents. I do hope that this prospectus will enable you to see that we are a school with high aspirations for all our students. At St James we aim to provide the best possible education for all our students and we work hard to ensure that all our students are able to benefit from a wide range of extra-curricular opportunities.

Our key focus as a school is to constantly focus on developing innovative and outstanding classroom practice in teaching and learning. We also make sure that all students have access to an aspirational core curriculum that will enable exceptional outcomes by the time they leave St James. Our specialism in mathematics and computing and excellent work in the core curriculum areas prepares students for the challenges of work and higher education.

We are a lively, happy and productive community and as a smaller school we are able to know and care about every individual.

Written by the students, for the students

At the very beginning of the project, the students, Mr Farmer and Miss Lloyd went on a trip to Marjons University in Plymouth where they spent the day finding out how to make a newsletter that is ideal for everyone and anyone, how to produce a newsletter and to correctly write articles and to use the appropriate software that is needed. Whilst we were there, we met Chris Hunt, who is one of the main founders of the whole project and we owe our great thanks to him. We have meetings every other Tuesday and discuss what articles that they could do or need to upload onto the forum. We are part of the whole school newspaper, which is with Miss Lloyd and Miss Andrews, who print out a newsletter that the students take home at the end of each term, St James Speaks is the online version of said newsletter, so that people at home can comment and see what we are doing during the term. We cover all of the entertainment, sports, trips, tournaments and all the other topics on the forum and put the posts into its correct place. You can sign up to wordpress.com to review a blog post, to like it or comment your feelings about the activity. You can even email us if you wish to start writing articles for St James speaks, Stephen.farmer@st-james.devon.sch.uk or you could visit submit an article page – but you will need an account to submit an article. We have a gallery, which we have pictures from many events that you can have a look at and see the many things that St James are participating in.
