1633 Training Weekend Report 25th-26th February 2012: North Dartmoor

On Saturday 25th February at 7.30am the 1633 Ten Tors team assembled bright eyed and bushy tailed ready for their first overnight training expedition, and so began the second phase of their training in preparation for the 1633 Challenge.

Our route began at Belstone on the northern edge of Dartmoor, and included some very demanding terrain up to Hound Tor, Wild Tor, Watern Tor and Sittaford Tor, before finishing for the day in Postbridge.

The walk provided a significant ‘step up’ in terms of the expectations placed on the team. They were doing all the leading and navigating, with the staff merely present as moral support and as occasional ‘baggage handlers’! The team were also carrying full packs complete with overnight equipment, which meant heavy loads for all. This, coupled with hard terrain throughout the day, made for very tough going.
