Charles Dickens 200th Anniversary Celebration!

Posted in: Latest News on Monday, February 20th, 2012

This year marks the 200th anniversary of the birth of Charles Dickens and there is lots happening in our school to celebrate the anniversary of the birth of one of the greatest writers to live and write in this country.

Charles Dickens was born on 7th February 1812, and we are planning to celebrate the bicentenary of his birth during the week commencing 20th February.  There will be lots of activities on offer in the library, quizzes during tutor time and also a webquest in English lessons during the week.

The library has obtained new books in various formats to add to the famous titles already stocked, to inspire students (and staff!) to either read the novels for the first time, or to revisit favourites.

Activities on offer to students during the week include a ‘treasure hunt’ for clues around the school involving the first sentences of his famous novels.  Once completed, entry forms can be posted in the library, and students will have the chance to enter into a prize draw to win a £5 book token to spend in their favourite bookshop.

These webpages have been created especially for the anniversary and will be available on the website until 02nd March.

Please follow the various links on the website to find out more about the life and works of Charles Dickens and join in the celebrations!
