The ‘Green Team’ attend their first Wildlife Conference!

Posted in: Latest News on Friday, October 11th, 2013

On Wednesday 9th October the St James Green Team attended a Wildlife Conference held at St Lukes School. During the day students took part in a range workshops- creating a bird box, bug hotel, bat box, bird feeder and seed bombs to bring back to school and place in the grounds. Students were also taught how to look after pond habitats and learnt some fascinating wildlife facts during a presentation by the National Marine Aquarium. Did you know that hagfish defend themselves from predators by producing thick slime that covers their entire body? Or that an octopus can lose an arm to escape a predator’s grasp and re-grow it later?

PSJ Creates Coin Art to raise money for PSJ Rewards fun

Posted in: Latest News on Tuesday, October 8th, 2013
PSJ Coin Art Banner

On Thursday 3rd October a piece of coin art was created to raise money for the PSJ reward fund. It was a very wet day so we used the hall instead of the ampitheatre. A huge thank you to Miss Woodford and her Year 9 Art class who drew out the design, which celebrates St.James and it’s great students! Special thanks to Jamie, Daisy, Finley, Fern and Joe who volunteered to be drawn around for the figures, hopefully the chalk brushed off or washed out fine!

During lunchtime, after school and during the Year 7 Meet the Tutor Evening coins were laid onto the design to build the coin sculpture which also acquired additions of chalk features and real ties along the way! Thank you to everyone who donated coins big and small, sterling or foreign, especially 8JET (Miss Thornton’s) which made the biggest contribution of the tutor groups so well done to them!

The coin picture was displayed at the Meet the Tutor Evening and then came the work of picking up all the coins! Thanks for all the help of Mr Farmer, PSJ members and students including George, Scott and also Oliver who doesn’t even go to St.James yet! There’s no total just yet but the amount raised will go towards the St.James rewards fund.

Now St.James has seen what coin art is, we’re hoping for an even bigger response when we create another coin art picture next year!
