Spring Rewards Event

Spring Rewards

At the end of last term. St James saw the Spring Rewards event take place. This year, expert bird handlers brought in birds of prey. An American Kestrel, a Falcon and a Barn Owl. Students were allowed to hold these birds whilst the bird handlers told them facts about the animals. Here is what some of our students had to say:

During the birds of prey award event there were three different birds one was a barn owl called Willow and an American Kestral and a Falcon. The birds were calm, fantastic and very elegant. We were extremely lucky to see these birds and we are very grateful.

Good things about the birds of prey event:

  • We got to hold all the birds
  • The lady told us a fact I didn’t know about birds which was that when birds see light their pupils got smaller and when it is dark their pupils get bigger.
  • My favourite bird that I got to hold was the Barn Owl.
  • The bird that I got to hold was 2 years old. The lady told us how she found it as well.

The birds of prey achievement was a very exciting. I held one of the birds and I took a picture with it. There were three different types of bird and they all looked very special. Even though I have seen all those birds before, I still really enjoyed the hour with them.

I thought the birds of prey were very good because we got to learn about the birds. It was liked it because we got to hold the birds and I thought that was very good. When the lady told us facts about the birds I didn’t know before, I thought that was very interesting.

It was funny that the birds defecated but it was exciting because every student had a go at holding them.

The birds of prey were beautiful. My favourite was Willow, the Barn Owl, as she was so patient.

It was funny because Willow defecated when my friend was holding her. It was also funny taking a picture with the birds.

The birds of prey were very exciting. The birds were friendly and we got to hold them. We got to take lots of photos. They told us lots of information about the birds.

I held a barn Owl and we also learn about the birds and what they do.

I found the birds of prey exciting and fun. I enjoyed holding the birds.

In this event, we learnt about bird of prey and they types, some were British birds of prey. We got an opportunity to hold the birds provided in this event. The birds were friendly and been trained very well. The activity that I liked the most was holding a bird but I can’t remember its name.

Knight Club Future – Your views needed

Youth Services

Due to budget cuts it is likely that the Knight Club facility in Beacon Heath could lose its funding. The Beacon Heath Working Together group which consists of the police, city councillors, county councillors, St James School, ISCA church, Beacon Heath church, the children’s centre, Exeter CVS and Exeter community initiatives recently met to discuss the facilities future. We agreed that we would like to consult with the community of Beacon Heath to find out your views on how the facility could be used in the future. We have done this in the form of an online questionnaire which can be found at: https://surveymonkey.com/s/knightclubfuturecommunityquestionnaire. Please take 5 minutes to complete the questionnaire and please publicise to anyone you know in the Beacon Heath community.
